Every one of those things in the background has been used at some point to kill enemies of the state in Nork. Consider it his very own Home Despot.

When the dust (fallout?) settles, it will turn out that President Trump believed he was playing bad cop to Tillerson's good cop to provide negotiating leverage. He is that stupid.

If only Trump had called for a red line instead of fire and fury if there were any more threats.

I think that in the real world, once all the bluster, finger-pointing, and angst settles, we're just going to have to learn to deal with NK having nukes. I don't see any really good options here. There really have not been any good ones for years. That, in the main, is why the can got kicked down the road in the first place. It's a tough nut to crack without a first strike nuclear attack or the expenditure of much blood and treasure by both us and our allies.

When China got nukes it scared hell out of America, but we learned to deal with it. The good side of NK having them is that they are a very valued and high prestige item for Kim. They *will* be kept under his control, as every damn other thing in NK is. He's going to shout and bluster, as he has been, and his father and grandfather before him... but they've had all sorts of chemical and biological weapons for many years. One was used to gank his brother a few months ago. Have they gone wild with those yet? Frankly, bioweapons would be far easier to smuggle and deliver than nuclear warheads are. As Doctor Quant pointed out, what leaves North Korea is very carefully monitored and accounted for. They push and make demonstrations, shoot down the odd plane or sink a ship. They go right to the edge and hang their toes over, but they have been very careful not to take the big leap.

The nuclear weapons which *really* scare me are in Pakistan, which is a far more uncontrolled environment. There are any number of factions who might steal or sell one, resulting in a nuke being in the hands of known suicide bombing fanatics. This is also true of Russia to some degree, although theirs are under better control than Pakistan's, as well as much better control than they were some years back.
