Could you clarify the parameters of this hate speech exception you're advocating?

Are you only talking about their right to hold public assemblies? Or also what they can write about, or talk about online, as well?

Are you only talking about Nazis? Or other hateful ideologies as well?

I think that it is only a matter of time before some nutcase brings firearms into it, and once that starts there is no telling where it ends. It could be as simple as someone in a mob like yesterday's pulling a pistol and shooting someone they're fighting with. It could be someone who has a bellyful of neo-nazis going to a third floor window and emptying a thirty round magazine into their torchlight parade and hauling ass. It could be someone who decides to *really* make a difference and shoot George Soros or Samuel Alito.

If that ever gets started and tit for tat revenge violence follows, we'll think that the slippery slopes that we've been talking about amount to nothing.

I am advocating no free speech protection for ideologies that are inherently built around tearing down free society.

This isn't some vague hypothetical. We are more or less the only major western country without such a rule.

 

Calling it "speech we don't like" is Nazi apologism.

 

OK, what is that list of ideologies? And who puts it together?

 

It's the set that contains all the elements in the set.

And the same people who balance our rights against each other now. We have a whole system set up to decide such things.

 

This is way too vaguely worded to really know what you mean. There are plenty of ideologies (and even some religions) that could arguably be construed to fall within that wording. Could you be more specific?
