Yes, exactly. It's the "WhatAbout?" framing that is a problem.

I don't think anyone is picking on Nazis. They deserve every bit of scorn.

I also don't think violence is the answer, as the unintended consequences of such a practice will be far worse than people could imagine.

I also don't think we should wrongly out college professors as Nazis when they aren't, or threaten reporters who look like they might be white supremacists.

I apologize if any of this is controversial.

I got to thinking yesterday about my high school history textbook, issued to me in the fall of 1991. Everything after 1968 might have gotten five pages or so, and we never even got to them in class.

For a history class to properly cover Trump, you're going to need an entirely new book to cover everything from the moment when he came down the escalator to slander Mexico in his announcement he was running to about Labor Day of this year. Then you'll have to start the next volume. It will look like a set of encyclopedias by the end of this term.

None of it is independently controversial.

It becomes controversial when it is linked, the way it was by Limbaugh yesterday and by you here, to Nazis. Read Limbaughs' monologue. The entire Nazi soliloquy is intended as a lead-up to criticize the other side. No one will simply independently condemn the Nazis.

I'll bet the story of that worker and his feelings doing that work is a pretty good one.

They'll get a lot of space back, however, in the portion where they would typically discuss legislation passed during the term.
