I don't eat hot dogs. Ever.
And extremely rarely do I eat sausage, for that matter.
But if I did, they would be slathered in mustard and ketchup!

My wife worked for a South African dentist who grew up in France. His accent made this line memorable:
"At the butcher shop, at the end of the day, they sweep up what's on the floor and use it to make hot dogs."
    (Ketchup for me. Hate mustard.)

A lot of great food starts with scraps or previously unwanted cuts of meat or other previously undesirable ingredients.

I like hot dogs. I like them a lot. They are among my favorite foods.
And it irks me when people dislike them and actively attempt to slander them on the internet.

If you really want to see slander, mention potted meat.

What irks me is using slander when you mean libel or libel when you mean slander.

And the overuse of "allegedly." Heard someone on NPR today say one person was killed at the protest, allegedly. No, there is no one alleging the person died at the protest because a person did die at the protest and the cause of death was not natural causes. The allegations are that James Alex Fields Jr. was driving the car that struck her and that his intent was to hit protesters with his car.

I know it has its fans, but this will forever remain one of the sketchiest items I've ever seen in a supermarket:

We had a lot of Pathmark No Frills stuff in the house growing up.
Potted meat, thankfully, was not one.
I've never had it, any brand, and I don't want to.

Here's what different brand put in their potted meats:
    • Armour: Mechanically separated chicken, beef tripe, water, salt, and less than 2%: mustard, natural flavor, garlic powder, vinegar, dextrose, sodium erythorbate, and sodium nitrite.
    • Hormel: Beef tripe, mechanically separated chicken, beef hearts, partially defatted cooked beef fatty tissue, meat broth, vinegar, salt, flavoring, sugar, and sodium nitrite.
    • Libby's: Mechanically separated chicken, pork skin, partially defatted cooked pork fatty tissue, partially defatted cooked beef fatty tissue, vinegar, less than 2% of: salt, spices, sugar, flavorings, sodium erythorbate and sodium nitrite.

I've never eaten any potted meat either, thank goodness. I didn't even know it was a thing until I saw it with a brand name a few years later. I always just assumed the No Frills version was like human dog food.
We were poor enough growing up that No Frills was always an option. The Pathmark store brand was our standard, and wasn't terrible in most cases. It was at least edible. My mom got the No Frills cola once. It was like drinking horse piss laced with battery acid and stagnant rain water.

  9. Shortly after I was married, I would come home from the sports department, drink about 8-10 Busch Lights, and eat a sleeve of saltines and with a can of potted meat.
Gained about 20-25 pounds pretty quick.

Haven't touched the potted meat in about 20 years.

The 29-year-old is among a small but growing number of parents-to-be paying thousands of dollars to star in cinematic “baby reveals,” complete with location scouting, professional lighting, mood music and animated storks.

Shot by specialist film-production companies, with a price tag of between $1,500 and $3,000, they don’t come cheap. But according to clients like the DeTerlizzis, they are worth every penny when you add up the likes and skim the delighted comments they attract.
JFC. This is pathetic. What the fuck is wrong with people? I can't believe there's a market for this. I'd defriend this person quicker than I would a Trump supporter.

Yeah, I know, no copy editors anymore... but typos like this still irk me:

Numbers drawn for Powerball jackpot, estimated at $535M

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The numbers have been drawn for one of the nation's biggest lottery jackpots.

Powerball announced Saturday night on its website that the winning numbers are: 17, 19, 39, 43, 68 and Powerball 13. There was no immediate word on whether anyone one.

Is it so hard to read things twice before they go to print? It's not. I'd venture to say most people here read everything they post once it's live and then make edits. Then again, forget I said that...
