Eric B. And Rakim, "Paid In Full".

AKA shit they never actually played on MTV back then outside of Yo! MTV Raps.

Hey it's Eric B & Rakim! I should know more about them since they're from my neck of the woods but I was too busy back in the day trying to grow my hair out like Mike Tramp. Take this one, Bubs.

Say this for the revamped MTV Classic, they show a lot of stuff that never saw the light of day back in the, umm, day. I saw a Bobby Brown video recently for a song I never even heard.

This feeds my theory, and I think BYH parts ways with me on this a bit, that MTV Classic is a 20-something's impression of the 1980s.

There's no fucking way "Paid In Full" gets played when, say, China Kantner was VJ'ing.

On that topic, help me out BYH, who was the best post-original VJ? China was a big fave for me. She's probably fucking 50 now. Christ.

I love me some old school rap, but Eric B. and Rakim never did a damn thing for me.

Fuck "Pump Up The Volume" retreads.

Uh, a live version of "Big Love" by Fleetwood Mac? This is an odd choice.

The world really doesn't need Lindsay Buckingham barking into a microphone, but here we are.

Honestly, Lindsay Buckingham can play the shit out of a guitar. Maybe the most underrated guitar player since he didn't go out of his way to be flashy.

Watching this, which is basically a Lindsay solo turn, I think it was just an excuse for Stevie Nicks to do some cocaine backstage.

Who was the SJ'er who was obsessed with Stevie Nicks? I'm old and don't remember shit anymore.

If they don't play Billy Squier during this spate of videos, I don't want to live anymore.

I don't even care if it's "Christmas Is A Time To Say I Love You". I want BYH to lose his shit.

Oh wow. Good question. China was the one that 13-year-old me liked the most, probably b/c she was like 14. Adam Curry was cool, b/c he had an awesome mullet and was on MTV ALL THE TIME. Kennedy was way too annoying. I remember she used to dog the Spin Doctors, which was fine, but then they exploded and she had to interview them on the air and sucked up to them something fierce. Fraud!

I'm drawing a blank on any other post-original VJs, which is depressing. Oh, John Norris. He was too pretentious, and quite likely lying about his age. He was on XM talking about George Michael following George's death so I wiki'd Norris. Wiki has him born in 1969. My ass, that dude was going bald in 1991.

Elite Singles ad. AKA marginally respectable Tinder.
