I really think this video cost $20. It needed a garage, a pick-up truck, instruments, and that's about it.

But I agree. This song is really good.

These videos are the best. So low-fi. "Just go into this warehouse and play the song 10 times. We'll shoot it from a bunch of different angles."

Phil Collins "Take Me Home". There's a lot of his shit I liked back then and dislike now, but I still dig this song.

Phil Collins, Take Me Home. People do not understand how fucking enormous this guy was in the '80s, or how creative he was. A short bald stubby guy became one of the biggest stars in music video b/c he was funny as fuck. "Don't Lose My Number" is a top 10 all-time video.

If you didn't live through 1985, it would be hard to convey how ubiquitous Phil Collins was. The top 40 station in Milwaukee had a Phil Collins-free weekend at one point and I'm sure they weren't alone.

Of course, this video is also Phil Collins humble-bragging about being a world traveler.

Somewhere, Tony Banks and Michael Rutherford are like, "We made you, bitch! You were our fucking drummer! Stop showing off!"

"Cause I've been a prisoner all my life...." Phil sings while dangling his feet in the pool at his million dollar house. He was so hot in the '80s, he could make videos like this and nobody got mad at him.

Hey Phil, you're about five years or so away from recording "I Can't Dance", which is just pure dreck. Let's chill with the humble-bragging. The fall from the top is coming and soon.

Mike: "The hell with you, I'll go form a band with the singer from Squeeze. No, not that guy. The other one."
    Tony: "You're both wankers."

Oh plenty got mad at him, but he was rich and flush enough not to give a shit.

I think of all of the records made between 1981-85? Phil Collins played drums or sang back-up on 310 percent of them.

What the fuck? Was Phil Collins challening Andy Capp at the end of that?

    "Heh-heh, that wife-beating drunk!"

The Cars' "Magic". This video is weirdly awesome.

The Cars "Magic!" If 80s videos were cocaine, this would be the purest shit on the market. You cannot get more '80s than Ric Ocasek as Jesus walking on water in a pool.

More evidence there's some sneaky good programming here: One unlikely music video icon followed by another. Ric Ocasek is the weirdest looking dude on the planet but "Heartbreak City" was a massive hit.
