Part of the whole problem (actually most) that has festered for 150 years now, is that it wasn't made crystal clear enough who lost the goddamn war.

"History and heritage" is code for "the lies we told ourselves about white supremacy, when we called it American exceptionalism."

 

Trump was talking about Confederate monuments - since they are the ones being removed right now across the nation.

And it's not "the media" trying to take away "history and heritage." It's the people pointing out our history and heritage is chock full of doing shitty things to people of color.

Nobody is trying to erase history. That is just the hysterical nonsense being pushed by racists. Let's give YF the benefit of the doubt and assume he is just trolling here or he is being duped.

 

Sure, he's not specifying Civil War monuments. He's just trying to blur the line, create a "First they came for the Confederate monuments and I said nothing..." situation.

I'm not sure how the left wants to reshape our history. Taking down monuments to people whose actions, in retrospect, don't deserve celebration doesn't seem that bad to me, even if it reeks of a symbolic, self-congratulatory gesture for SJWs. If anything, these statues are distorting history. Clinging to the CSA has allowed people to downplay the evils of slavery, shirk ownership of a treasonous heritage, and confuse people on the party lines of the Civil War era, early 20th century, and now.

The CSA statues are of racist Democrats, put up by racist Democrats who all became Republicans the moment the Democrats wised up on civil rights. Do you think that the average dolt waving a rebel flag would be cool with your characterization?

 

Sure, but what other flags would be allowed?

Could a Catholic or a Jew fly the Vatican or Israeli flag?

We're allowed to differentiate between the meanings of symbols. Confederate symbols mean one thing. It's time we stopped giving a flying fuck about the idiots and not-quite-hidden racists who pretend otherwise.
