Toying with a guy early on is a farce?

I think this came down to the fact that I couldn't muster enthusiasm over either combatant.

Given Mayweather's abuse history, I'd have loved to go all-in behind McGregor. But I can't get enthused about an MMA fighter turning boxing into a farce for a night, either.

Is there anyone on Earth with a better job than Mayweather?

Has only about one official work day per year (or in this case, per two years). Gets to handpick opponents he knows cannot beat him. Almost never seems to genuinely get hit. And makes a gazillion dollars every time he does it.

In my next life I'm gonna be that.

There has to be a rematch, right? With the buzz this created after months of assuming it was nothing more than a spectacle, people will be chomping at the bit to see them tangle again. Could be a purse of $600M.

    Mayweather retired. Boxers never unretire.

I didn't see the fight but it looks like Mayweather utilized the strategy Larry Holmes often employed: get him drunk and then mug him, take the opponent into unfamiliar territory, the deep water of the late rounds.

EDIT: Just watched the fight on YouTube. If McGregor had developed any kind of jab at all - as opposed to just waving with his right hand - he might have found a home for his straight left and a left hook to the body. At times he looked like a complete amateur who kept his chin up way too high and had no idea how to get leverage on his punches, other times, particularly early on when he would switch to orthodox briefly, he looked like a guy who would be a troublesome opponent.

The fight was over as soon as Floyd started moving forward and forced McGregor to retreat

I'd be surprised if that many people wanted to watch it again. The curiosity part of it is over. The truth is now out there. One the best MMA fighters couldn't hang with the best boxer in a boxing match. There is no more "you never know what might happen." We now know, even though we pretty much already knew. I don't even think the best promoter could sell that rematch to the general population.

McGregor should just be happy he turned Floyd into a Mexican.

I don't blame people for having this reaction, but I think Mayweather was playing it extremely safe until he knew he had him, once all of McGregor's power was gone. He might have carried him for a couple of rounds, but I don't think the outcome was scripted. It was easily predictable, but still on the level.

Well, keep in mind I didn't expect hardly anything from him. So the bar was low. He landed a few punches and made it entertaining. That is better than I expected.

Best take I heard was that it was a farce but an entertaining one. I'm good with that. Just was annoyed by all the professionals who seemed so gullible.
