I didn't like Manning's footwork in college and thought he'd never fix the problem, which would limit him throughout his career.

Ben McDonald is one that comes to mind. Coming out of LSU, I thought he had Cy Young written all over him. I think he had some arm trouble and his career never caught fire.

You're looking great with the Clausens, though.

Almost the entire 1984 U.S. Olympic baseball team could be on this list. Every player was highly touted, with Barry Larkin, Mark McGwire and Will Clark the only breakout stars.

BTW, they did not win the gold, losing to Japan in what was an exhibition sport.
Of the 20 players on the roster, 13 were first-round draft picks in 1984 and five went during the first round in 1985. Only three--Akins, Alfaro and Caffrey--failed to reach the majors.

Greg Swindell, Norm Charlton and Ken Caminiti were among those who failed to survive the last cut.

Just FYI, as a barometer of how his career's going... those Diet Dr Pepper commercials with "Li'l Sweet?" Yeah, that's Guarini.

I enjoyed Terence Trent D'arby's debut but never bought into the Rolling Stone hype that he was the next Michael Jackson or Prince

Yes. That one was very early in his career, before Rounders, American History X and Fight Club.

He was also nominated for an Oscar for Primal Fear, which was his first film role.
