Yep. That first album was a little more rocking than the later stuff, but the "pedestrian heavy metal" line was still bizarre.

I know pedestrian heavy metal (where the fuck is Beej to defend that shit????) and "Cool for Cats" ain't it.

Jet. Their debut album Get Born was great and had a number of heavy-rotation radio plays including Are You Gonna Be My Girl and Look What You've Done, showing some good range between rock and ballads. If they even made another album, I am unaware of it. That CD though got a lot of play by me in 2004

Crow had 33 songs in the top 100. Taylor had 21.
Taylor sold twice as many records, but he's had 25 extra years.
And those 25 years were prime album buying years while a chunk of Crow's time has been during the post-album-buying era.

I don't dislike Taylor, but Crow > Taylor.

How about Ty Willingham? Rising star at Stanford, then his first Notre Dame team started like gangbusters. When he was fired, people were ready to storm the Bastille.

Then he went to Washington, went 11-37, including an 0-12 season his final year, and never put on a headset again.

Ah, but Taylor can crank up the money machine each summer with a headlining concert tour. I don't think Crow can do that now, much less three decades after her last single charted.

I haven't seen, but I've heard reports that he overshot this summer on that front. Booked some venues that were much too big and played to largely empty stadiums.
Again, I like Taylor, but he's probably getting bad advice if he thinks he's going to sell out a bunch of baseball stadiums.

Further clarify, I don't know the business. He might have made plenty of money, but even if you're making a buttload of money it can't feel good to play a small crowd in a big venue.

Phoebe Cates after Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But maybe exposing her chest was her high point? How about Jennifer Beals? I thought she was gonna blow up big after Flashdance. Am I showing my age?
