That's what I initially thought: He was trying to reach for the guy's cash before throwing him a hat and speeding off.

 

If he gets the money first, he's not letting go of the hat.

 

I see a lot of allegedly serious people trying to tie me to a goon squad I don't give two craps about. The false equivalence and its appeal in the mind of those who fancy themselves reasoned centrists is an old weapon in the fascist bag.
