A big part of the job of President is being the person who makes us feel better when something bad happens. Reagan was a master at it, Bush struggled with the LA riots, Clinton saved his presidency with his response to OKC and W and Obama were also quite adept.

Trump is handicapped by his public image, I also think he's an awkward guy around strangers/those he hasn't pre-screened to measure their support.

So you think Dubya's handling of Katrina was "quite adept"?

Part of the reason his fumbling Katrina was so shocking was how well he had connected with people right after 9/11.

Handling of the disaster? No. An ability to comfort people in times of crisis? Yes.

Trump has failed to get anything when he needed anyone else to cooperate. He's issued exec orders and done unilateral actions like withdrawing from the Climate Accords. But he has failed to negotiate anything. He's the worst. He yells, threatens, bluffs and when called on the bluff, he denies having made an offer. He's an awful business man. Trump Tower was a success. He built something tacky but Grand at a time when no one bet on NYC, since then, not much. Lots of failures. Lots bullshit. Terrible deal maker.

Honestly ... you'd think people who supposedly work with words would know what words mean. What you wrote was absolutely clear.

I had plenty of problems with GWB, but he hadn't built his entire public image, as Fucko has, on being a total fucking prick 24/7/365 and quite defiantly not caring who liked it or not -- in fact, reveling in the fact people did NOT like it.

So nobody buys it when Fucko tries to shift gears and be the warm hearted comforting grandpa.

It would be interesting to find out how being President changes people. I have to think it is incredibly frustrating to be the "top guy" in every room you walk in to - and yet also be unable to stop some bad things from happening or get everything you want done. You are both quite powerful and as Trump has learned, somewhat powerless. Trump is one of those non politicians who seems to have the support of the "common man" but at the same time has never spent a lot of time amongst them. Most pols have quite a bit of experience at pre-planned events where they meet average Americans (if only for the TV cameras), but it does give them a perspective they might otherwise not have. Trump's experience with the "common man" is usually the CM telling Trump how great he is, not Trump listening to them and hearing their problems.

He has the best words, though. All the best words. So beautiful.

You realize you're not talking about Trump, right?
