Julian Edelman. College QB at Kent State. Undrafted in 2009. Started as a punt returner. Now a two-time champion, making memorable plays in both Super Bowls, and the favorite target of the greatest quarterback in the game's history.

Most of that is true, but Tomlin was a coordinator before he became the Steelers' head coach. He ran the defense for one season with the Vikings.

Overall, you are correct regarding the doubts about Tomlin. There was a report in one of the Pittsburgh papers that Grimm was the hire, but the reporter trusted the wrong source on that one. Everybody expected one of them to get it, so the assumption was that the choice of Tomlin was all about the Rooney Rule no matter what the team said about him. He also faced questions because he was a Dungy disciple who ran a 4-3, Tampa 2 defense in Minnesota, but he was coming to a 3-4, zone blitz team in Pittsburgh. No matter how much trust the Rooneys have in Pittsburgh, there were some serious doubts about Tomlin when he arrived.
