Any previous Congress, including the ones during the Obama years, could have passed a permanent fix whenever they damn well pleased.

In your telling of It's A Wonderful Life, Henry Potter is the true hero for helping George Bailey see how many friends he has.

Right. But they don't want to take difficult votes.

Posturing is easy. Paul Ryan declared DACA unconstitutional. John McCain ran on repealing Obamacare.

It's no easier for Dems. They want these Dreamers protected? OK, work with republicans to write legislation both sides can sign on to.

Now, that might mean giving something up. Will the Dem base accept this? Will Dem lawmakers agree to compromise?

If they mean what they say, they will.

That's some damn fine spinning to twist this into today's announcement being a big plus for Dreamers.

You vote for the party of "liberalism is a mental disorder," "liberalism must be destroyed," and "pathway to citizenship is a dem plot to create dem voters."

But tell us more about how you're eager for compromise.

"Trump is helping those people" is disingenuous BS. In his first few weeks in office, he didn't hesitate to try to bypass Congress with a string of executive orders designed to carry out an immigration / travel agenda that was racist and discriminatory in nature. On this, something being driven by that same exact agenda is best advanced by punting it to Congress (rather than trying to take unilateral action), so he chose the most expedient way for him to fuck with that particular immigrant group of people.

He should at least be honest about who and what he is and what is driving these "policy" decisions: Xenophobia, nationalistic claptrap, and the wet dreams of a group of bigoted and hateful people.

I think the GOP-led Congress should put up a clean DACA replacement bill. They won't even need Democrats, right?

Here's my question for the folks here: are you for legislation that would grant Dreamers a path to citizenship if it also includes border enforcement, including potentially, funding for a border wall/fence? Yes or no?

So, give them legal status with no path to citizenship? Why would you support this?

A border wall/fence is a fanciful waste of money and I won't support it. I don't have a problem with money spent on border enforcement which isn't built around wall-shaped pipe dreams.

If DAPA didn't stand up to legal challenges, why would you expect DACA to?

We either have a nation that respects the rule of law, or that doesn't.

If you don't like the law, you change it. You don't ignore it.

Trump is giving Congress the time and opportunity to change the law before he enforces it.

So, you'd have Dreamers deported before you would compromise on this?

Who is forcing this choice where we either keep Dreamers but with a wall, or all the dreamers go? Is there some sort of deadline I was unaware of?
