Well, the Astros are serious contenders now; they don't need to hire bench coaches based on fan favorite status.

But it would be a place where Ausmus could buff up his image for a couple seasons and disassociate from the mess the Tigers are going to be the next few years (which I don't think is particularly much of his fault, but OTOH he hasn't done much to improve it either).

I was thinking more that the owner would want to hire him because he "knows how to win."

Ehhhhh. The Astros are supposed to be a hip new data-driven organization, and there's certainly nothing in the data that indicates Ausmus has any magical knowledge of "how to win."

Nothing to indicate he's a bumbling boob either for that matter. Just a guy at his first job who might get better, or might get worse.

The kind of guy who probably doesn't need to add two years at 98-226 to the data base of his managerial record.

Sounds like this is becoming a thing.

That sign has challenged a lot of preconceived notions that I've carried around a long time. I mean, I didn't think anyone in New England besides Gee gave a damn about college football.

I flipped the game on MLB Network and, when I didn't turn it off, my wife turned and asked, "Why do you watch baseball games between teams you don't care about." I explained to her about the Indians winning streak and before I could finish saying they still have a chance, Lindor doubled home the game-tying run and I said, "That's why I watch baseball teams I don't care about." We watched as the place went crazy and my wife goes, "Oh, OK, I get it now. That was pretty awesome."
