Restaurant chains that no longer exist

There's one in Stuart, Fla., north of West Palm Beach.

Funny Burger Chef memory: My father, who's prone to malaprops and mispronunciations, never got the name right. Always called it "Burger Chief."

 

We have a Western Sizzlin here. It is terrible.
It opened about a decade ago.

 

There's still a Godfather's in Topeka.

Not Moddy, but the Lum's you speak of closed in 1992. It became a Pizza Hut Express, and now there's a Panera and Chipotle on the site. The Biograph, which changed names a few times (it was the Grace Street Art Theater for some of my time there, and I think maybe it was a cyber cafe later in life) is now a Noodles and Company. In general, Grace Street is almost completely unrecognizable from even 10 years ago (the Village Cafe lives on, though).

 

Oh, how I loved those as a kid.

Forgot about HoJo's. They did a fine Shrimp Newburg.

 

I have a really disgusting HoJo's story that I will tell in a non-dinner hour someday.

 

This, too, does not surprise me. They didn't tend to be bright, clean places.
