President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

Do most liberals care about roids, coke and hookers? I don't think they do. If anything, conservative fans care more about those things. I can think of more than a few ESPN commentators who'd give those three things a complete pass; hell, they might even call for their legalization, since those are viewed as politically inoffensive expressions of liberty.

I don't see too many fans of any political stripe giving wife battery a pass.

If he’s going to be divisive, he should at least be tactical about it.

I guess then it wouldn’t be so offensive.

 

Did NASCAR really have a choice? Even if you set the political leanings of their fan base aside, better for them to take the bullet/any public criticism of the move than have it fall to a sponsor who pays money and likely would have been put in the public opinion crosshairs if somone on a teem did protest. Lose customers if you do nothing, lose customers if you do something. Now maybe this impacts NASCAR across the board negatively, but better that than leaving a sponsor hanging out to dry.

As for the Baker article - the point of Trump's divisiveness is HE is "choosing the battlefield" of why people disapprove of him. Its one thing to do your best and have people say you suck. It's another thing to intentionally do something to annoy people and people saying you suck because you are annoying them.

 

Politics is the least of NASCAR's problems.

Under the league rule, the failure to be on the field for the anthem may result in discipline such as a fine, suspension or loss of a draft pick. But a league official said the key phrase is "may" result, adding he won't speculate on whether the Steelers would be disciplined.

The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league's game operations manual, according to a league source. It states:

"The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

"During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses."

It didn't tear the league apart I see.

Trump's tweets and speeches are red meat for his base. They serve little other purpose. It's part of the long game he's running. Last week the Emmys, today the NFL, next week some other thing.

 

Yeah. Neither are the U.S. Virgin Islands.
