I, too, know what it means. This is not knowledge elusive to me. I'm fully aware of the advantages I've had - more to the point, the disadvantages I've been lucky to avoid - because of my race. I know what it means.

Many white Americans are more than ready to compromise or work toward some fraction of racial reconciliation. I'd like to see movement there. What I mostly see are celebrities and media patting each other on the back for half-wit, mile-wide digs and hot Trump takes.

Pop is sincere here, and I appreciate that. But he's also in a position where that's easy to have the take he does. He's rich, he's surrounded by other rich people, and he's with a media predisposed to agree with him. The words are great. The risk is not.
