He'll take your wife, he'll take your life. The cat. The dog. The kids.

Anyone remember Katherine's Kitchen (the ham-biscuit places)?

Last Big Boy stop I made was circa '05 in New York, either on the Thruway or I-84. Had the quasi-buffet. Don't think I've seen one since.

Mr. Steak! Had one of those in St. Charles, Mo., in the 1970s. Not sure if it's still there.

They're really prevalent along the I-75 corridor in western Ohio.

Also I miss HoJo's, because now I'll never get to force complimentary fried clams and orange sherbet on my wife and then leave in my Cadillac while she has to hail a ride home.

The first time I ever had bacon on a hamburger was at the A&W in the town where I grew up. We also used to pile into my folks' Chrysler after cross country practice and buy a gallon of root beer and pass it around the car chugging it down. Germs? What germs? Still the best commercial root beer made. When my daughter was at Troy U., they had an A&W restaurant in their student union that I always made it a point to eat at. Now, the only A&W restaurant I know of near me is in Meridian, off I-20. It shares a building with a Long John Silvers.

There's an A&W near me in an outlet mall, and it has the vat of root beer out in a serve-yourself area next to the other soda machines. I never argue when the wife/daughter want to go shopping there. I set up camp in the A&W and drink roughly my weight in root beer. Their food is underrated, too. A nice coney dog or 4 really hits the spot.
