    Unfortunately, a great majority of the stuff here I have no interest in. But the stuff I AM interested in is wonderfully debated and beaten to death.

    Like others, I just click on the ones I'm interested in. But every couple days I open the political thread and it knocks a couple thousands off that number

    I was around 450, but cut that number by over half by hitting the most recent page of the politics thread and hitting "unread posts" again. It saves me a step when the mods close that thread.

    What's the value of getting it to zero? Isn't it useful to know what you've read?

    It's back to 117 in about 3 hours.

    There is no value to clearing the number, it just gets a bunch of posts I was never going to read off the list.
