When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves, in the course of time, a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it. - Frederic Bastiat

The legal system that authorizes it: The 16th Amendment (which got through on a promise that an income tax would never affect 95 percent of people; of course all that was necessary was for that barn door to be opened), and the IRS that lords over the life of anyone who is successful, with an out-of-control tax code and the theft it legally endorses.

The moral code that glorifies it: Things like your post.

Every time I've heard Price speak, I've thought of Ned Flanders from the Simpsons. He even used to have the mustache.

Have you ever explained your theory as to how we would pay for things like disaster relief and defense and roads and bridges without taxation?

Have you ever explained your theory about why we need $7 trillion a year of local, state and Federal spending (not counting some entitlements; and that number has been increasing exponentially) to provide disaster relief and defense and roads and bridges?

Tell you what. You want to talk about a couple of public goods (and that doesn't include disaster relief, for what it is worth) that wouldn't get allocated without a government providing them, and I can come up with a budget that is less than a trillion dollars -- Federal, state, local, all inclusive. Then we can discuss how much taxation is necessary to provide for those things, and how to go about it.
