This is a real peeve of mine.
Are people using their turn signals a lot less, or am I just noticing it a lot more?
    It seems like an epidemic.

Well, many find it difficult to text and get to the turn signal device at the same time

They have no function at all on BMWs.

Back in the early '80s when Wall St. was heating up and a lot of new money was flaunting it, there was a joke that went around NYC for awhile: What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? The answer was, A porcupine has its pricks on the outside.

It's kind of amazing how the perception of BMW has changed. It was definitely a douchemobile from the mid 80s to maybe the late 90s. But then you saw a lot of young urban-area kids driving older models -- and maybe bc the yuppies had moved on and sold them? I think they have a pretty universally positive image nowadays. And god almighty are there a shitload of different models. I see a new BMW model on the regular.

I've come close to buying one on a couple occasions. I like them.

I drove one for 10 years, from 1999-2009. Loved that damn car. Smooth as silk, power out the ass. But it is almost a cliche how expensive it is to get them fixed. Even basic shit cost a fortune.
But damn damn damn I loved that car.

Didn't buy it new. It was seven years old, one owner. I talked to a guy at the local BMW dealership who had seen the car. He told me to buy it, there was no way I could do better at this place.

I'm in the process of buying a 2004 Volvo S80 AWD (to replace the Buick as my train station vehicle) from the lady across the street whose husband entered a nursing home about half a year ago. Old drivers, only 80,000 miles, for $1,000, so my mechanic loves it. Repairs won't be cheap, though.

My friend's mom, who is well into her 70s and probably shouldn't be driving anymore, doesn't use turn signals because "I know where I'm going. I don't need a flashing light to tell me." When my friend pointed out that said light was so other drivers will know, she said they would figure it out once she started turning. Allentown, PA vicinity drivers - you've been warned.
