There seems to be this very strong desire to establish the premise that white people commit acts of terror, too, Especially old white people. Especially old right-leaning white people.

Even if we have to twist the definition of "terrorism" beyond recognition, as someone worked to do with "trolling" the other day.

But they just really, really don't.

Have you watched the video? It sounds like a WWII movie.

It's a machine gun. Whatever you want to call it, that's a fucking machine gun.

It's possible he was using a semi-auto AR or AK with a bump stock attached. That allows you to fire it in a full-auto manner without it technically being a full-auto weapon.

But I'd put money on him owning some full-autos - either bought that way or modified after the fact.

Yes. It is absolutely tiny compared to this.

I said this at San Bernardino shooting and caught flak for it here but I still believe it. What fucking difference does the motive for mass murder make? It's an horrific crime, and we ought to do things to make it harder to commit. PS: Dick, if old white people don't commit terrorism, what do you call the shooting of Steve Scalise?

Not necessarily. Most of the hoaxes on that Buzzfeed thread are trying to establish him as left-leaning/Antifa, not the other way around.

My first instinct at seeing Dealey Plaza was that JFK could've been killed by dumping a palette of schoolbooks on him.

    Left-leaning shooter/terrorist, right?

I'm sure there is some example of a right-wing elderly person committing something that can be loosely defined as an act of political terror. I'm sure there is. It's a big country.

It's obviously extremely, extremely rare, though, and Islamic radicals simply commit most - or certainly a plurality - of what we think of as acts of terrorism in 21st century America.

And one component of doing things that make it harder to commit would be to understand motives, and work from there.

And don't be mistaken here - I advocate the complete and immediate repeal of the Second Amendment.

Gun control is part of the solution. Probably the biggest component of the solution. But it's not the only component worth addressing.

    No.

I don't know why you're digging in on this. Experts in the immediate aftermath were calling it out as fully automatic gunfire.
