It should be pointed out that the gun people won the fight, which wasn't even close, with bullshit like this.

    America.

I wonder if private citizens were allowed to own cannon in the 18th century.

So far I know one person who was shot. She's in the hospital and will be OK. Still waiting to hear about some other people. What a fucked up day this is.

All my friends who were at the concert are thankfully safe and are not injured. They're going to be shaken for a long, long time, though.

Cannon was the ultimate state monopoly from the time they were invented.

The developing story seems to be at a standstill, no?

An outwardly normal retired guy opened fire on a Jason Aldean concert from the 32nd floor of a hotel, killing 58 people and injuring 500 others.

I guess we wait until the authorities scrub his computer.

Is there a possibility we never find out why this fuckface did this?

We're not used to mass killers being an older person who is more likely to keep his business off the internet and might not've felt any need to share his motive.

    I don't know about normal.

Eric Paddock said his brother often gambled in tens of thousands of dollars. "My brother is not like you and me. He plays high stakes video poker," he said. "He sends me a text that says he won $250,000 at the casino."

Eric Paddock said he showed the FBI three years of text messages from his brother and said he had no information whether Stephen Paddock had gambling debts or was financially troubled. "I have absolutely no information he lost a bunch of money. The casino would know that," he said.

Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock enjoyed gambling, country music, lived quiet life before massacre

Story also says Eric Paddock's kids once took a skeet shooting trip paid by the casino.

And, from his time in Reno: For several years, the gunman lived with his girlfriend, Marilou Danley, in a retirement community in Reno, Nev., neighbors said. They said they interacted with Danley but not with Paddock, whom they described as extremely standoffish.

If this was brought on by mental illness, who knows if a true motive will ever be determined?

Just saw a congressman on Twitter with the old "you can't legislate away hate" argument.

Of course he's right, which is why we need to do everything possible to eliminate those weapons that most quickly and easily turn hate (or mental illness, or religious zealotry) into a bloodbath.

There's no way whackos don't turn this into a false flag conspiracy theory, is there?

Here's where you start losing the gun folks and I'm not talking about NRA hardliners. There are a lot of semi-auto hunting rifles out there and have been around for decades and decades. You start lumping grandpa's wood-stocked Browning BAR with a four-round capacity in with assault-style weapons with 30-round, quick-change magazines and they'll tune you out.
