Nonsense ... have you seen my feet? They're deserving of only the best in each and every occasion.

Doesn't the situation in Chicago - strict gun laws in the city - but very lax ones in nearby states sort of show that approach wouldn't work?

I've seen a number of replies here that left me thinking that they were coming from people who were in completely unfamiliar territory. A farmer whose money crop is being chopped up by a big sounder of hogs is not going to call the Fish and Game. If he did, it's not like they have a statewide Hog Swat Team to dispatch. Guys like that are going to handle the problem themselves as fast as possible. Most likely they'll call neighbors, friends, and family and set up a hog hunt and barbecue.

Good lord, NC, you're still talking about hogs?

How do they dispose of all the hogs? Barbecue 'em all? Burn or bury others, or let 'em rot?

I had never heard much about feral hogs (in big numbers) until now. One of those fuckers got Old Yeller, though.

    EDIT: Oops. Sorry, Stoney.

It showed that in that very particular situation, where a big city with a high poverty rate happens to border a state with lax gun laws and the existing Second Amendment was in place, such an approach did not completely eradicate gun violence.

When I lived in Houston, Opening Day was huge. Starting at around noon on the Friday before, you'd start getting traffic reports on the radio about the traffic jams on the interstates headed out of town north, east and west. (Not much deer country south of town). Most of it was pickup trucks with coolers in the back, pulling trailers with ATVs and tree stands on them.

Opening weekend was also huge with horndog guys headed to the kicker bars. ("Kicker" from "shitkicker", colloquialism for the Country and Western dance clubs.) That was because there were all these women whose husbands had loaded the truck and headed out to the hunt club without a glance back, and it was opening day for the pissed off wives, too. The down side was that if her husband came home he had a rifle with him.

We have a 5-cubic foot freezer filled with bacon and sausage from some of ours. We've shared with neighbors (our land is bordered by some ranches) and friends. Had it processed at an abattoir and donated it to food banks. And, honestly, there have been times we've shot a couple and left them for the coyotes and buzzards.

I'm not sure how many carry pistols could hit the side of the Mandalay Bay from 400 yards. I heard a SWAT team captain this morning answering an interviewer's question about stationing countersnipers at large public events like football games, and he said that he'd be afraid that police snipers with long guns would endanger bystanders... pistols from that far out would be as accurate as thrown rocks.

Shrug. Just came back to the thread and responded. Agreed, it's an inane derailment to a thread regarding something much more important.

Is there a food market for these hogs? Had never heard of a feral hog before this thread.
