And the truly astonishing grip that the NRA has on GOP politicians. "Gun Rights" have become such an ingrained part of the Republican platform and vocabulary that it might be more important to them than the anti-abortion plank. Certainly the NRA spreads around more money than anyone with the possible exception of defense contractors and big pharma... and they are a one issue lobby.

If 80 percent of Americans want something, and it doesn't happen, then you don't live in a real democracy.

I talked to my friend who was there. A couple interesting observations:
He said the shots were loud. He heard the first shots through the music. After the shots ended, it was super loud.
He knew immediately something was wrong. His CHP friend first thought it was firecrackers.
They were in the back, and the shots were hitting in front.
I don't have the details how they got out, but they ended up at McCarron airport(!) after going through a fence. A hanger for private jets. He said a couple hundred people were there.
They then got hurded by a bus to Thomas and Mack.
There were tons of rumors. Multiple shooters up and down the strip; concerted attack in Paris..
I ask his opinion of what percentage of the injured were from the shooter and what percentage from trying to escape. He thought 80+ percent were from the shooting. The concert was on a parking lot and every bullet ricocheted off the parking lot, and many people were hit with shrapnel.
He said the the shooting was so loud, they heard it at the Davis Copperfield show at the MGM.

Totals by Sector | OpenSecrets By Industry Sector.

Interest Groups | OpenSecrets By Interest Group.

Top Organization Contributors | OpenSecrets By Organization.

Per the L.A. Times article at #633, the NRA gave $52.6 million to the GOP and $265 to Democrats. According to the figures in the third link, that makes them the single largest organization in donations to Republicans.

I'm not at all sure that the Open Secrets groupings are apples to apples with that $52m figure, though. The second link if you look under "gun rights" shows the NRA at #1 with $6m spent on lobbying.

Wait till you see what the Realtors and the Accounting lobby spend if Tax Reform threatens their bread and butter tax deductions.
