I was texting with friends today, including a cop and a gun enthusiast. The Second Amendment is the first line of defense, but it’s pretty easy to browbeat people into a policy debate. This shit has to stop, and Democrats need to stop being pussies about it and put some legislation in front of their colleagues.

    That’s unequivocally not the case.

Absolutely wrong. A strict interpretation of the 2nd amendment is that you have the right to keep and bear arms independent of any militia considerations (and that was true before Heller). If that weren't the case -- if the militia contingency existed -- there would have been no need for a 2nd amendment, seeing as how these militias from the get-go were considered to be subject to Congress.

Why did he have 23 guns in his room, many of which were useless for the task at hand, most of which were apparently not fired...unless maybe he was doing an arms deal and was showcasing his wares?

But ISIS would be broadcasting it’s role, if true.

I see your point. But it’s also possible that crazy gonna crazy.

Twelve of them had bump stocks, so he was probably shooting one dry and then grabbing another instead of taking time to reload. I imagine he had pistols sitting on flat surfaces all over the room so they would be near to hand when they stormed his room.

Besides, he was a gun crazy. One's too many and a hundred's not enough.

As others have pointed out a real mystery is where he got his cash.

He was a high stakes gambler but was current with the casino and did not act like a money launderer as he accumulated hundreds of IRS gambler notifications. He purchased tens of thousands of dollars worth of weapons recently. He owned multiple homes and stayed in them only briefly and did not rent them out. He sent his girlfriend 100K earlier in the week. His has had no employment history in decades and his early history was pedestrian. There is a record of him owning an apartment house at some time in the past, but his name apparently is not attached to any corporations, private businesses, trusts, holding companies etc. His brother says he was a multi-millionaire but he apparently lived in regular houses that could be maintained without servants.

Some interpret the law that way. Others consider the "well regulated militia" phrasing as essential to the nature of the law, and proof that the individual right doesn't exist beyond protection of the state.

The Supreme Court has ruled on this. Move on.
