I thought it was nice of them to have the courtesy of waiting until his term is up to slot Trump in at No. 45.

Maybe I'm not getting a joke, but is there really another book on Grant coming out? H.W. Brands just did one a couple of years ago.

I respectfully add Nixon said the heck "with all deliberate speed" crap and forced southern schools to desegregate. Of course, that led to an increase in the "academy" bidness.

To use a Trumpian term . . . the other 44 are in the clubhouse, and he's 328 shots behind No. 44 after the first 4 holes.

  5. Isn't there a musical on this in the works?
    Seriously?

I don't get what you mean, Evil. Guess I'm a little slow on the uptake. I have no idea who Ron Chernow is.

Chernow wrote the Alexander Hamilton bio which was adapted into the musical. He's just written a book on Grant that comes out tomorrow. I tried to share the Amazon link in that last post, but it didn't seem to work for some reason. Maybe it will this time?

I don't know if the musical rights for Grant have been bought up yet. I guess The Room Where it Happened would be the McLean parlor in Appomattox Courthouse?

Too many of Nixon's betes noires are still around doing their thing for us to get a clear picture of how he'll stack up historically. I don't know how old you are, but younger people don't realize how absolutely hated he was.

Gerald Ford at 25 seems curiously high. Why not ranked Trump? William Henry Harrison only made it 32 days and he got ranked. Trump would obviously be last

The same reason Obama shouldn't have been ranked -- not enough data yet.
You need a few years after the term ends to really gauge a president's legacy. What policy initiatives worked long-term or didn't work, how did their leadership style really change the culture of the country, etc. It's kind of like sports halls of fame, where you should be five years (or four years for presidents) removed from your body of work. Most of these presidential rankings don't rank the current president.
Trump could very well be headed for a bottom 10 ranking. Certainly seems that way so far. But there's still time for him to turn it around or for some of his initiatives (like tax reform or deregulation) to actually bear fruit.

William Henry Harrison has also been a tough one in these things. Many of the polls, IIRC, either give him an incomplete or stick him somewhere in the 30s as a buffer between the truly awful presidents and the mediocre ones.
