Let's be honest: America has been propped up by bullshit and half-truths for at least a century.

True, all the way back to the founding.

But always a matter of degree.

Having elected Professor Marvel president, we've entered a new age of national dementia.

He mowed down about 500 people. He came up with a brilliant, never before thought plan. He seemed to know enough.

He had a page full of calculations for how to adjust for the conditions and angle in order to snipe people. He knew enough about guns.

Knowing enough doesn''t make him an expert or above making amateurish mistakes.

But, you'd think there would be some evidence of him practicing, and there doesn't appear to be.

Now, maybe he went out into the desert or something, but you'd think you'd want to practice shooting semi-automatic weapons, with a bump stock, prior to attempting mass murder, if you had never done it before.

We know he bought a bunch of guns, but when and where did he ever shoot them?

My son was a scout sniper in the marines. Dude in Mandalay was making the same calculations as he used to in Iraq.

Like you said, he probably went out in the desert. Lots of empty public land where he could fire off thousands of rounds without anybody knowing about it.

All easily Googleable. Or you can even download apps to do it for you.

For anyone with a little bit of self-motivation, the Internet practically makes formal education and training in any field obsolete.

This morning, I noted to Mrs. Whitman that I was going to be around two hours faster in the marathon at age 40 than I was at age 24.

“Why do you think that is?” she asked.

    “Because of apps.”

    It’s pretty wild isn’t it?

I’ve repaired my dishwasher, washing machine and vacuum based on YouTube videos. They show you exactly what to do, on the exact models I have.

You can find parts diagrams online, and order the parts from Amazon.

Thankfully, supersutomatic espresso machines are more complicate, and the parts are not widely distributed.

I honestly am starting to feel bad for my kid right now, going to school every day. He says he learns more at home reading books, and, well, he’s not wrong. Formal education - whether it’s in analyzing “Moby Dick” or turning yourself into a killing machine - is practically unnecessary and even counter-productive for certain personality types.
