    It is an association, which is taxed differently from corporations. The NFL's own revenues are legally separate from team revenues, even if teams share in them as a distribution.

    They were classified as a non-profit trade association, which isn't subject to income tax. But they voluntarily gave up their tax exemption a few years ago. The income the league itself brings in was diminimous enough that it wasn't worth the negative PR they constantly were taking over it. Plus, now they legally don't have to let everyone know how much they are paying Goodell, which I think was annoying the living hell out of him once a year when the figure would get released and people would gawk and comment about how overpaid they think he is.

    You're right, I forgot how they gave up the tax break. As Matt Yglesias noted, if Trump really wanted to put the screws to NFL owners, he'd call for increasing the estate tax.

    Tax should be on accumulated wealth. Soak the bastards who have billions in the bank. Gates and his ilk should be forking out more than a billion a year in personal tax.
