How can we know Unemployment is down?

From 2008 until January 20, 2017, Rush, Hannity and Trump all assured us that the unemployment numbers were fake, and that real unemployment is something like 10 or 20 percent.

How come we don't care about "REAL" unemployment numbers now?

 

As Hannity might have said at any point before January 20, 2017, the labor participation rate remains at a level not seen since the 1970s.

How come the participation rate was a disaster, right up until inauguration day?

The Dems did NOT have a 60-vote majority for two years. Because of Ted Kennedy's illness/death and Franken's six-month delay in being seated, the Dems had four months of a filibuster-proof majority.
