    I don't even care if it's true, to be honest.

    I'm much more interested in the fact that Kelly wants no part of this getting politicized.

    But, a lot of media outlets ran with this before even checking something that has to be among the easiest things to check.

    So as it turns out, the protocol would be for a President (or superior officer) to call or write the next of kin of a service member killed in combat. Kelly's son was married, so his wife would be the next of kin.
