Something that hasn’t been brought up, but merits consideration: it’s certainly possible that Witherspoon has told this story to people, attached to a name. And that that name leaks. And you’ve already acted as judge and jury because, oh hell, it’s not like you’re libeling an identifiable person ...

You should clarify what this means. Because if you're saying someone who works in porn can't be raped, you should probably rethink that.

That's not what I was revealing.

We can believe her, and think journalists should choose their words more carefully.

I don't know her personally. I have no idea if she's telling the truth.

She said that she felt her silence was a requirement of her employment, which makes it sound like she did work for him.

    Writing is hard.

    Never said otherwise.

Well, that was unfortunate. Writing is hard. So is typing on an iPhone sometimes.

In the abstract, I believe her. I don’t see any reason not to.

But, journalists should do a better job, and I don’t understand the need to defend journalism against Dick’s specific criticism.

Just out of curiosity, and to show what I said earlier about all of these verbs meaning/doing approximately the same thing, with "alleges" having legal/protective uses (according to Random House Webster's College Dictionary) :

say(s): 1. to utter or pronounce: speak. 2. to express in words, state, declare. 3. to state as an opinion or judgment. 4. to recite or repeat. 5. to report or allege; maintain.

claim(s): 1. to demand or as if by virtue of a right. 2. to assert or maintain as a fact.

allege(s): 1. to assert without proof. 2. to declare with positiveness; affirm; assert. 3. to declare before a court or elsewhere as if under oath.

reveal(s): 1. to make known; disclose; divulge. 2. to lay open to view; to display; exhibit.
