Already now we have Wilson admitting she didn’t here the whole conversation, and that the widow didn’t remember exactly what Trump said.

So, Wilson’s count is a paraphrase of a paraphrase. There are no direct quotes.

But, I’m sure Frederica is being completely fair to Trump, and not letting her own political bias influence her.

 

The idea that anybody is so in the tank for Trump that they can't admit he's probably not very good at empathy is amazing.

Dude. The other person, the soldier's mother, who was sitting in the car listening to the conversation first-hand, said Wilson's account was accurate.

Of course, no one would be checking what he said to this woman if he hadn't:

1) ignored the deaths until it became inconvenient and obvious

2) made up a wild lie on the spot to cover for his not having done it

3) doubled down on the lie when caught, then pushing a misinformation campaign in which he tries to stir up a tangential but irrelevant controversy (Obama didn't call Flynn. He just called Flynn's son's wife and hosted his family personally at a dinner for families who had lost loved ones in service).

4) finally, hastily getting around to calling these families because he was pressured to

I won't quibble with your diagnosis, but I also think the Tangerine in Chief simply hasn't done/doesn't do the kind of grunt prep work required to make doing stuff like that look easy. If you've been in politics for a long time, you've done all sorts of rote, ceremonial stuff for decades. By the time you're in the Oval Office, doing/saying stuff like that's second nature. Trump simply isn't good at it, doesn't realize he isn't good at it, and likely isn't interested in doing the work needed to get good at it.

 

Maybe he only likes soldiers who weren't killed in action

It doesn't take a lot of prep work to express basic human empathy.
