Anakin wasn't a villain in Attack of the Clones.

Wait, I thought George Lucas was the villain in I, II and III.

I hadn't heard it applied to the posters, but I have heard the theory. I can't say I'm a fan, but I can see how it would work.

He wasn't the primary villain, but his turn to the dark side began in Attack of the Clones. You could argue that his first truly villainous act was to slaughter an entire village of Sand People.

Just as you could argue that Vader wasn't really the primary villain in Return of the Jedi. Emperor Palpatine was the main villain.

Dooku and Jango Fett are the main villains in Attack of the Clones, and they're not even on the poster at all.

Taken as a trilogy, the Emperor would be the main villain for the prequels. But I think Anakin started becoming a villain in II for sure.

The second prequel is when he started letting his hate flow through him ...

Exactly. As MC noted, Dooku isn't even pictured in the poster (Jango Fett is, but he's pretty low on the pyramid). Anakin's position atop the pyramid was telling of his path for the film, and you have to wonder if the same is true of Luke in this poster.

Somehow, that scene gets more and more cringeworthy as time goes on. Doesn't seem possible, yet, it manages to do so.

It reads like a bad ad-lib, like George Lucas told Hayden Whatshisface, "Just fill in this spot with some random business while we move on to the next piece of plot."

Part of that is about the visual. Jango Fett was more likely to catch people's interest in the Mandalorian armor than Dooku.
