One thing I forgot (and if I forgot that I already posted this and am too lazy to go look, blame old age): My daughter got engaged recently. Finally.
I'm very lucky that my kids grew up into productive adults with a tremendous work ethic and are basically good people. Also lucky that I went 2-2 in kids picking life partners I actually like. A lot.

I have until May to get my shit together and NOT be a sobbing mess when I walk her down the aisle. Fat chance. She's incredible and I'm going to totally lose it.

    I'll post pictures.

My 3-year-old. Yesterday we took her for her first trip to the zoo, and she was amazing the whole day. We walked a ton and saw the lions and tigers and bears (oh my!). She was great in the car during the trip, and she loved riding the little train at the zoo. The weather cooperated, the animals were active and we just had a great day.

She probably won't remember it in a few years, but we will. Truly, a great day all around.

I don't think Mr. Tall (whoever that is) works his corners in the Midwest.

Already this morning, I got answers to two questions I've been trying to get for months and months. Neither was all that complicated, I just needed someone to make it official.

Now I can proceed with my transfer to my next post. Yay for the cutting of red tape.

In a few months, I'll turn 50, and I'm mostly an empty-nester now. In the span of about 90 minutes yesterday, I got calls from all three of my kids, in order of age, seeking advice about something or other. The oldest is 23 and in law school; my son is 18 and just moved halfway across the country for a job; younger daughter just turned 17 and lives with her mom 25 miles away.

My dad is disabled (traumatic brain injury suffered in a car wreck 30 years ago) and my mom, well, I don't really have an adult relationship with her, so I know what I'm missing to not have my parents around. To be a trusted source for my nearly adult children is all I had ever hoped for from my life.

I was thinking Mr. Tall was some kind of creepy George Mikan dude hanging around the zoo, handing out balloons like Pennywise.

One of the giraffes took five steps closer to the fence (to munch on some grass) and scared the little one; she's unnaturally scared of dogs and cats. Strange.
