I read that Stamkos (goal, 3 assists on Saturday) and Kucherov (two goals, assist) are the first teammates to score a point in the first nine games of the season since Doug Weight and Pavol Demitra did it for the Blues in 2001-02.

Lightning took advantage of a worn down Penguins team on the second leg of a back-to-back with a 7-1 win. Had everything going from the start. Crosby spent most of the first 12 minutes in the penalty box after getting a misconduct call but he still played 18:01.

Ducks winger Patrick Eaves diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome (immune system attacks the nervous system). Full recovery is expected but there was no mention on how long the recovery takes. Eaves missed all of training camp. He played two games a couple of weeks ago and has been out ever since.
Ryan Getzlaf played the same two games Eves played, but his ankle injury prevented him from playing in any others. He got hurt during training camp and re-aggreviated the injury in the games he played. He is supposed to return Tuesday night.
Ryan Kesler will be out until Christmas because of four large bone chips in his right hip. He couldn't push off with his right leg from about midseason on last season. He had surgery in June.
Hampus Lindholm played with a bad shoulder during the playoffs. He had surgery in June. He is expected to play his first game Tuesday night.
Sami Vatanen had a worse shoulder injury than Lindholm. He played with it in the playoffs, had surgery in June and will probably miss several more games.
Cam Fowler injured his right knee going into the boards last Friday and could be out 4-6 weeks.
Don't forget, hockey players play hurt and don't complain.

All of my hope for the season has turned sour. he Rangers are much less than the sum of their parts. It's probably time to blow up this team and start over. They have given up quick goals -- like within the first 2, 3 minutes -- in a majority of their games, and then have to play from behind. They have some talent, so then they get a fire lit under them and play hard for a period or so, but between some very erratic play and some inexplicable coaching and player decisions, they just look like a really bad team. Lundqvist is letting in goals he didn't used to. And they are doing things bad teams do. Turning over the puck a lot in their own end. Yesterday, they gave up a goal in the last 45 seconds of a period on the way toward getting drubbed by San Jose. It's going to be a tough season to get through if this keeps up.

The Caps aren't much better. Niskanen already out for a bit. Burakovsky just put on IR. They can't get through a period without taking like eight minors. They're spending more time in the box than Justin Timberlake's dick. There's a lot of season left, but making it to the playoffs out of the Metro won't be easy. Better figure out something quick.

Watched the first period in Vancouver last night before succumbing ... Not sure if they do VORP for hockey but I've got to imagine Nick Backstrom's number compared to Chandler Stephenson's would be astronomical. Niskanen out. Backstrom sick. Now Connolly's hurt. All while playing the toughest schedule to start the season to boot. Starting to think it may be a very tight squeeze just to earn a wild card for the Caps.

The Caps looked like they had the Roxy flu last night.

The Rangers beat the Coyotes last night, who were playing their third-string goalie. .. .who looked like he woke up to the fact that he was on ice skates standing in the middle of Madison Square Garden about 2 minutes in. So naturally, all is good in Rangers world now.

Failed to mention Burakovsky out too. All of the no-injury good karma from last year has taken a 180-degree turn.

The offseason moves are killing them even more than the injuries. They're playing three rookie defenseman even before Niskanen got hurt.
