I mentioned a few months ago the Dallas stops -- along with the Palmer -- could be in some trouble with the switch of the PGA Championship ending on the third Sunday in May. The PGA Tour is contracting its schedule. Something has to give.

There are very few tournaments that can survive without corporate sponsorship. Curious to see what happens with the D.C. stop now that Quicken Loans is no longer the title sponsor. It has Tiger Woods' name behind it, but I'm not sure how far that can take it.

I thought I heard last summer that the D.C. stop is gonzo.

A friend of mine was a marshal for that event each year. And in the first year of it, I was going to be a ShotLink operator, went through all of the training, then got called to go out of town.

The Tour held its own remarkably well during the last recession. I detest how quickly they move on from familiar cities and courses (Trump connection notwithstanding, it's a crime that Doral isn't on the schedule anymore), but cash rules and they have shown no signs of not being able to keep finding it. Corporate America still drools over the association with Phil, Rickie, Jordan, etc., and all those $10,000-per-spot pro-ams fill up every week.

Some nice West Coast golf news.

The Olympic Club tells the USGA to pound sand. Links up with the PGA and gets the 2028 PGA -- just the third west of the Central time zone in 30 years -- and the 2032 Ryder Cup, the first U.S. Ryder Cup west of the Central Time Zone in 73 years.

Lots of majors/Ryder and Presidents Cups hitting the Pacific Time in the next 15 years.

Love all that prime-time golf for us east coasters. Especially that Ryder Cup -- by the time that gets here all of my children will be outta the house so I can finally watch golf in peace.
