The New Yorker had a great article on Flynn reported on in the period he was hired and fired - Flynn is even interviewed. The people who knew him the longest - and liked him - commented on his "change" from someone who analyzed data and made calls to someone who became a zealot. They said they didn't recognize him but suspect his collaboration with an anti-Iran author had a lot to do with it.
