It is a good question, though. It's not like Roy Moore is some newbie to Alabama politics or hasn't made his share of enemies. His antics have been so far out there, as well, that you'd think someone could have brought this up at any point in the last 20 years at least and destroyed him before he got to the brink of winning a senate seat.
Why now? Why not 10 or 20 years ago when he was in the line of fire? Even among Alabama's Good Ol' Boy Network he had to have enough political enemies at various points that word of this would have filtered out to someone, right?

It sounds like this was an "open secret" kind of story that everyone heard, but details were scant. It was "oh yeah, my cousin's buddy's ex wife's sister was molested by moore when she was 16." That is a tough lead for a reporter or mud slinging blogger to track down and get. The Post even added how long it took their team to put together and fact check.

And as Moore's career rose in Alabama, the story likely grew as did the difficulty of confirming it. "If it was true, someone would have reported it already, so we at the bigger paper won't touch it."

I can see that happening until we remember that it involves jr., then I believe he knew everything jr knew.
