I'd been saying for quite some time before the Roy Moore story broke that I thought that there was a measurable chance that he might not win. I hoped that the Republicans who found him distasteful (and there are quite a few) might actually cross over and vote for Doug Jones. Staying home might be enough, but really Jones simply needs more votes. Moore's voters are loyal and were going to turn out. I figured it as maybe 55-45 Moore.

OTOH, if you drive around town, you see many more Doug Jones campaign signs than Moore signs. I think people are somewhat embarrassed to openly support Roy, and that will get worse.

No way in hell does Roy Moore willingly withdraw from this race. Maybe, if there were more women coming forward and the Republican party got wind of it and gave him an out, maybe... but in a general sense his entire candidacy has been a finger in the eye of the establishment Republicans. I'd be very surprised if he stepped aside. There are a lot of very vocal voters who take the positions "No way I believe this. It's a trash liberal paper doing a hit job just before the election" or "I'm not voting for a Democrat, no way. Doug supports abortion. No way." That sort of talk is very prevalent.

I see signs that Moore may actually gain votes from people who are newly energized. That's wrongheaded and contrary as hell, but we're talking about Alabama Trump voters here.

In general I don't see any signs of the state GOP pushing him out. He's too popular with the yammerheads. There isn't much that the National GOP can do to squeeze him out. McConnell tried during the primary and failed miserably. It would require the Republican members of the Senate refusing to recognize him or seat him. Again, I don't see that happening. It should if they have a shred of self-preservation, because his child molesting is going to be hung around their necks and they have to know it.

    If trump were pres
Gott im Himmel, I am morbidly fascinated by this. I can't help but wonder what love and tenderness looked like from trump in the 1980s, and what horrible thing he could have done to make her feel violated. I can't imagine him being any more romantic than, "hey baby, let's fuck on the craps table at the casino."

And let me stop there before I turn into star man.

I remember watching TV when the Starr report was published. They interviewed some guy in LA who'd read it in an Internet cafe (remember those?). He said, "it may be grounds for divorce, but not impeachment." It turned out that guy was reflecting a consensus.

Roy Moore ain't being asked to give up his presidential nomination. He'll (presumably) hold the same position as Kennedy.

Senator is not President. Congressman is not Senator. State Senator is not Congressman. State Congressman is not State Senator.

There's always some "mismatch" that people try to use as a disqualifier as to why "X" was OK but "Y" is not. They work about 1.2 percent of the time.

It was the same with Trump. Polls all had him losing, few moderate people would publicly support him, and yet none of that mattered. A lot of people are moral cowards. They may hate what Moore stands for, but damned if they’re gonna vote for some namby-pamby snowflake. If Moore loses, I’ll be shocked. He’s the senator that state deserves.

And i doubt in today's world that random stranger would be morally obtuse enough to stand by that.
