I wonder how different things would be if UR had been the one to get to the Final Four that year they were both in the Sweet 16 (there wasn't that much difference between those two teams other than which night they caught Kansas).

Maybe more like Duke and UNC on a smaller scale?

The Spiders have UAB in the Cayman Islands tournament on Monday, and it is a deep and skilled team. They're 2-0 and won by 40+ last night against Chattanooga, which is admittedly not the team they were a couple of years ago, but still.. 40 points. Stud seniors, high quality freshmen, lots of depth. Expect another beatdown.

UR averaged 6,300 last year in a 7,100-seat facility. Not bad considering the small size of the student body.

We had a great chant back in the day - "We are (clap-clap) well-endowed." Endowment at $2.2 billion total, $655,000 per student.

And to think, there is actually a fringe element of the Ole Miss fan base that wants Andy Kennedy fired.

You hear about how much UR costs and you think "Wait, Richmond? It's a good school. Where the hell does the money go?" Then you go to their campus and you say, "Oh, that's it." One of the best campuses I've seen. Not a brick out of place.

My daughter informed me earlier today that Richmond is tops on her list. Hope we can secure the scholarships.

Classic "good, but not good enough" thinking, which is understandable when the hump you're trying to get over is being a consistent NCAA Tournament team rather than a consistent NIT team. Eleven seasons and two NCAA Tournament appearances would have gotten him fired at a lot of places a long time ago.
Still, considering that they're a consistent winner on any level after not being that for ... well, forever ... says a lot about Kennedy's ability.

AK has the most wins of any Ole Miss MBB coach, but he does not win enough and he should be fired. Makes about as much sense as Southern Miss firing Jeff Bower, and will probably work out about as well.

We're talking Ole Miss hoops here, you know?

SPRINGFIELD Jim Boeheim. John Calipari. Mike Krzyzewski. Rick Pitino. Roy Williams.

4 are confirmed cheaters, shouldn’t it be assumed that the 5th is as well?

Not quite the same. I was among those who thought Bower deserved at least another season as a farewell tour, but the truth is Southern Miss football had gotten stagnant in his last few seasons. Recruiting had fallen off, and they were losing to teams they once dominated. When they lost to Memphis at home in 2007 -- on a last-minute drive engineered by a quarterback who played high school ball at Hattiesburg High, whom Bower had spurned -- on top of a home loss to Rice, well, that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

And they had five pretty good years under Larry Fedora after they pushed Bower out the door. What killed them was hiring Ellis Johnson after Fedora left for UNC. They still haven't completely recovered from that fiasco.
