Waiting to take the seat back in 2020 would suit McConnell fine. There are enough Senators shaky on the tax plan already, one more or one less won't make a difference.

Like I said, these stories were pretty well known in Etowah County. It was just that he was powerful and influential and no one wanted to take him on at the time. There was no reason to gather and document such stories until he was nominated for the Senate.

 

They may yet get some sort of tax bill through, but the current version is worse off than the health care bill was at this point.

Republicans are continuing to be reminded that bending the system to let you win unchecked power with a minority share of the vote doesn’t make your policies actually popular.
