Aside from everything else, the guy is about to turn 42 years old.

    How old’s his back?

Depends how you're counting. 147 years old, or two bad swings away from meltdown.

I predict he survives the cut and even gets a top twenty finish this weekend.

It's a resort course. It was designed in mind for old, fat rich people who ride in carts and hit the ball 187 yards with their driver. He'll slap it around and hit some good iron shots and make a few putts and the Golf Channel will go blind from the excessive masterbation. And then we'll get word that his back is "sore but nothing unusual" next week and he's "looking to add five or six more tournaments" in the next few months, including one in the UAE or China, and then he'll get back to the gym and start doing power cleans again so he can look good and bang divorcee moms on Sam's soccer team, and he'll try to hit it 400 yards at Torey because he'll be annoyed that DJ and Jason Day are hitting 9-irons into a Par 4 and he has a 6 iron, and then he'll get hurt again and schedule a 5th back surgery that's only legal in Bolivia.

It's late November, what else is the Golf Channel supposed to talk about? There isn't a Q School anymore.

I'm an old golfer (not quite fat and not rich). Part of the game is learning to cope with how age affects you. By my age, you lose about one-third of a club every two years. While I agree with your scenario in large part, it'd be the saddest failure of all, since it would mean Woods' ego prevented him from even attempting one of the sport's bigger challenges -- compensating for age.

There is zero question in my mind that he is not ready to accept reality yet. He may in the future, but in no way is he there yet. Look at every report that's emerged from his practice rounds.

    "He's hitting it past DJ."
"He's got speed and explosiveness back."
"He looks aggressive and ready to compete at the highest level."

It's all so bloody stupid. He literally hasn't played golf without painkillers in a decade (from what I've heard) and people expect in his first season back that he'll be hitting bombs and able to practice and play without pain.

They can talk about Tiger's return with a little skepticism and a little less hyperbole. You watch. They will be talking about whether or not he can win the Masters on Morning Drive if he opens with a 68.

Can’t we just avoid this horrible fate by having @freqposter explain to him he can skip the gym and just head over to the local Barnes & Noble? Could be the key to next year’s Masters.

I don't know. It isn't like Fox Business and CNBC spend a lot of time talking about the pending bear market and why the market is overvalued and it might be a good time to diversify into something safer right now.
