Absolutely agree. I've said it a number of times - when the Bush tax cuts were passed, part of how they kept down the projected effect on the deficit was to write in a sunset date for the cuts. "It won't explode the deficit because the bill is written to end those tax cuts in seven years."

As soon as the cuts passed, the GOP began to attempt to make those cuts permanent, and kept trying until they were able to get that passed. The only time they really (pretend) to give a shit about the deficit is when Democrats want to spend money.

 

His opinion is valid.

Let's not pretend some guy who worked at Treasury 30 years ago, and now works at the Urban Institute was some top adviser to Reagan, or represents what Reaganites as a whole think.

The point is that the tax code is the most corrupt tool both parties have. There is zero altruism involved.

GOP places risky bet on trickle-down tax cut

 

This is very true, to the detriment of the function of the Congress as a whole. Chucking the traditional norms for short term advantage has done all sorts of long term damage. It's also left a lot of residual bitterness - every time one side does it to the other, the losers say to themselves, "OK, if that's how you want to play it, fine, but wait till next time."

Supreme Court nominations are going to be an absolute guerilla war, and what has been going on with blocking the appointments of federal judges for years and then packing them in one-sidely is unconscionable. The results are going to be war to the knife instead of government for the people.

 

He literally wrote the foundations of Reaganomics while working for Jack Kemp. He wrote two books extolling the virtues of supply-side economics and was a senior policy analyst for Reagan.

The guy spent most of his adult life extolling the virtues of Reaganomics and he thinks this bill is a screwjob of everybody but Trump and other wannabe oligarchs.

Also, too, where is Bartlett's name on the Urban Institute masthead? I can't find it.
