NBC Fires Matt Lauer

Imagine trying to edit this man's rambling gibberish into a book. This might be the most mangled sentence I've ever read on Twitter not authored by the President or Brandel Chamblee. He should apologize to his editor while he's at it.

As far as the reporting of sexual issues, for politicians if they are one of the closeted gay ones who claim to be christian and vote against civil rights for gays, they need to be exposed and maybe any time that happens with straight ones. Barton would probably qualify if he claims to be pro family christian.

 

Which Democrat does not portray themself as pro family?

Nancy Pelosi goes on about how her favorite word is “word”, as in the word became flesh.

Let’s not pretend that Democrats all portray themselves as supporters of open marriages, and/or who don’t consider infidelity to be a go deal.

Heck, I’d be curious to know how many of our politicians who don’t consider infidelity to be a bid deal would see it the same way if it was their wife who was stepping out.

Affairs and consensual sex are very different than what Lauer's been accused of, even if we strip out the sexual assault.

It's one thing for Tiger Woods to bang every waitress in Florida or MLB players to sleep with groupies. Tiger and the ballpayers have no power over the women in question

And, if Matt Lauer was having an affair with some other on air talent (not on his show), or an NBC executive, I'm not sure there would be much to get worked up about.

But, when Mat Lauer, or some other person of power, claims a right of Prima Nocta over every pretty young girl who is hired in their workplace, that's a big problem, and shouldn't be tolerated by management, or looked upon as a simple case of infidelity or womanizing.

A woman should not be put into the position ohh having to decide whether or not she should succumb to Matt Lauer's advances, and ponder how her decision will impact her career.

It's a no win situation for the woman. She's immediately put into a situation where men will be gossiping about them, as Glenn Thrush did.

And, for the women who turn down these advancements, and see their careers suffer, it's a terrible outcome.

But, it's been overlooked, and allowed, because by some definition it's consensual. It's bullshit, and management needs to put a priority on making workplaces free of this kind of situation.

 

Yes. Also, several of the instances described sound more like sexual assault than they do a superior coercing a subordinate into a consensual act.

From the Times:

On Wednesday, NBC received at least two more complaints related to Mr. Lauer, according to a person briefed on the network’s handling of the matter. One complaint came from a former employee who said Mr. Lauer had summoned her to his office in 2001, locked the door and sexually assaulted her. She provided her account to The New York Times but declined to let her name be used.

She told The Times that she passed out and had to be taken to a nurse. She said that she felt helpless because she didn’t want to lose her job, and that she didn’t report the encounter at the time because she felt ashamed.

 

100%.

I'm just saying that even removing this from the equation, the whole idea that management knew that Lauer was a "womanizer" but not a predator is no excuse.

If he's a "womanizer" with every intern who walks on the set, he's a predator by definition, given his job and influence.

Same goes for his co-hosts. If they knew he was pressuring underlings to have "consensual" sex with him, then they knew he was a scumbag, and not a playboy.
