Again ... there's no reason to pump your brakes if you want Woods to become a force once more. If you're disappointed, so what?

If he begins making those uncomfortable back movements today, goes back for more surgery and tries again in 2019, why is there the need to remind everyone not to get their hopes up?

There's a difference between rooting for someone's comeback and plunking down cold cash to bet on it.

Yeah, but outside of the last few posts, we haven't been talking about betting the house on him. We've been talking about starting every conversation regarding him with "Yes, but ..."

I am willing to go with "so far, so good" this morning. He looks pain-free and has played well. He's really only competing against himself this weekend. The other guys are tuning up their games for a paycheck. We can revisit the issue on Monday.

If this bcak surgery goes wrong, there won't be another comeback. It's over.

Also, please remember that Vegas lines are not a prediction, but an enticement to solicit action.

Oh, I would love to see him become a force again.
But I'm not going to bet any money on him when he's played 36 holes. Still a lot left to see. And not just this weekend. See how he does in Torrey, then flying cross country. We will have a better idea where he's at after Honda or Bay Hill.

One thing I believe is actual grounds for optimism about Woods' health is that he has to have been practicing very hard. His game doesn't show any more rust than the guys who've been off for two months and a half months, not two-plus years.

Two-hundred and sixty yards with a 2-iron gives me considerable cause for optimism.

In that schedule, where do Ambien and a fire hydrant fit in?

Interesting that he was actually a shot better through two rounds last year.

    You got that backwards, pards.
    73-65 last year.
    69-68 this year.
