He sure could. If he can play a full schedule this year and doesn't make many cuts and doesn't come close to contending, I could see him walking away.

I'd forgotten that about Jack. In 2004, he was what, six years removed from being in contention on Sunday at Augusta. That was 1998, right?

Based on the SMALL sample size this week, it seems like Woods will be able to compete this season. But we all need to see several more tournaments to know for sure.

His driver has long been a problem. From what I saw, he hit that pretty well this week. You'd expect, and saw, rust on the short game. As we know, the short game and putting is what made him dominant. That can come back (not to 2000s form, but good enough to win) with practice and tournaments.

Combine that with being better off the tee? He can win tournaments and perhaps even another major (other than the U.S. Open).

Dammit. Yeah, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I’m not sure how playing 4 rounds leads anybody to believe he can play a full season.

He looked better than I expect. I'm a Tiger cynic and I was impressed. He's going at the ball hard.

This course masked some weaknesses. You could miss in a lot of places and still be fine. But the fact that there were no grimaces or limps is huge. I hope he'll be smart. So little suggests he will.

Yep. SMALL sample size, as I indicated. Gotta see a lot more.

    You think?

He can make it to the US Open and I still won’t believe he’s finishing the year.

Yes. That's why I wrote it.

That wasn't eating the course alive. That was going blitzkrieg.
Birdied the first 7 out of the box, and 8 of first 9.
    Neat little 61 to close.

Fowler's hot streaks are the hottest of anyone's. As to the subject of this thread, he has to be encouraged. Now for a real tournament with a full field. Perhaps more relevantly, now to see if he can get out of bed and shave this morning without pain.

Rickie now the best without a major? Would love to see him win one (or more).

Would be nice to see him hit some new places too. The consensus is that Torrey Pines is his next stop, but why not the birdie-friendly Sony Open? Give us what we want, Tiger! More you!
