So what we have is someone not named Rick making a dumb decision, Eugene apparently trying to drink himself to death because he feels guilty for being ... Eugene, and the a rehash of the governor storming the prison with a tank. Eugene is not a character you want to center an episode around. Oh and why were the walkers only able to go as far the one room at the bottom of the stair case?

I'm a Walking Dead apologist but honestly last night was an insult to my intelligence

Hoping it’s just a set-up for a great fall finale.

Can’t say I’ve disliked this season overall. But it’s kinda meh.

They’re stretching. Make Season 9 be tbe last and go out with a bang.

Way too much Eugene. My hunch is, all that screen time and his big rant at Gabriel about only looking out for himself is setting up a noble demise for the mullet head.

Did you all see that they mentioned who the crossover character is? I don't know how to spoiler it. Should be interesting to watch. I would love to see them all meet up for some sort of last season story line. Although I think the comics still has lots of stories? They have said it could go on for a while. Not sure if they took into account a drop in viewers.

Mildly interesting to me that the last few weeks have been their first dip under 10 million viewers since season 3, five years ago. Not just this board thats pretty lukewarm on this stuff these days

I listen to a couple of Walking Dead podcasts and the general consensus is that it's a widespread aversion to the show. The last two seasons (this one and last) have been pretty bad in terms of storytelling, acting and just flat out stupid moments (RPG'd has officially replaced Jumped the Shark).

I'm going to stick with it because I've come this far, but it's definitely become background noise for me on Sunday evenings. This latest episode (All Things Eugene) was a snorefest. I hate Eugene, and I believe the above theory that he's about to bite it in the next episode is on the mark. They said in Talking Dead that something "shocking" was going to happen in the final episode. Hopefully it's a really a shocking moment and not just hype, like the All Out War has been.

I think the change in cast hasn't helped. I struggle to remember the names of all the new group members. Negan is a way better baddy than the Governor but the core supporting cast is not as strong, or at least not featured as much, as the old Hershcel, Glen days which seems to be the height of the shows popularity.

An ensemble cast is one thing but too many changes from the core is risky.

I think they do miss Steven Yeun, and losing Michael Cudlitz at the same time made the show weaker. If I remember, the writers admitted Herschel lived longer than they had planned because they wanted to keep Scott Wilson on the show. Jon Bernthal and Michael Rooker are both excellent, too, but they've both been gone from the show for a long time.

The bodies piled up in front of the stairs, effectively blocking the Walkers from advancing, or at least slowing them down. I don't think it was established that they are stuck only on the main floor for good.

Seems to me that the dump truck effectively broke the Walker blockade and the Saviors will now be able to escape because the Walkers all moved into the main floor. Dumb move, Daryl.

So Carl got bit when he and Siddiq were fighting those walkers, right? So he already knew he was going to die, so that's why he was so gung-ho on having a plan and offering himself to be killed.
Also, I still believe that someone he survives the bite.

If he does, I think that may be the final straw to get me to stop watching.
