    It's an enormously meaningful difference that Franken's seat is safe and both Moore and Trump would have surrendered the open seat to a Democrat. If you mean morally, I agree with you. But politicians' ethics are situational.

    If Moore is expelled or forced to resign, then his seat is not being surrendered to a Democrat. It's an easy slam-dunk Republican win the moment they nominate someone who isn't a batshit insane child molester.

    It's easier to justify in a Franken case. The People didn't know about this when he was elected. In Trump and Moore's cases, the People knew - and elected him anyway. Who is Congress to override the will of the People?

    Overriding the will of the people is literally the reason Congress exists in place of direct democracy.
